Green computing

Green computing is the study and practice of using computing resources efficiently. Typically, technological systems or computing products that incorporate green computing principles take into account the so-called triple bottom line of economic viability, social responsibility, and environmental impact. This differs somewhat from traditional or standard business practices that focus mainly on the economic viability of a computing solution. These focuses are similar to those of green chemistry; reduction of the use of hazardous materials such as lead at the manufacturing stage, maximized energy efficiency during the product's term of use, and recyclability or biodegradability of both a defunct product and of any factory waste. A typical green computing solution attempts to address some or all of these factors by implementing environmentally friendly products in an efficient system. For example, an IT manager might purchase Electronic Products Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT)-approved hardware combined with a thin client solution. As compared to a traditional desktop PC configuration, such a configuration would probably reduce IT maintenance-related activities, extend the useful life of the hardware, and allow for responsible recycling of the equipment past its useful life. Green computing An open industry standard called Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) provides a standard programming interface that allows an operating system to directly control the power saving aspects of the hardware. This allows the system to automatically turn off components such as monitors and hard drives after set periods of inactivity. In addition, a system may hibernate, in which it turns off nearly all components, including the CPU and the system RAM, greatly reducing the system's electricity usage. To resume from this state, some components, such as the keyboard, network interface card, and USB ports may remain powered, to receive input from the user. ACPI itself is a successor to an earlier Intel-Microsoft standard called Advanced Power Management, which allows a computer's BIOS to control power management functions. In the absence of ACPI or APM support, some external components, such as computer displays, printers, scanners, speakers, and hard drives may be turned off manually when not in use. In this state, though the external periphals may be off, the main system continues to consume electricity. To minimize the impact, the system could run file sharing software or volunteer computing software, donating its resources to a long-term project. Different policies specify the circumstances under which each item is covered. Cote d'Ivoire For example, a vehicle can be insured against theft, fire damage, or accident damage independently. Croatia An excess payment, also known as a deductible, is the fixed contribution you must pay each time your car is repaired through your car insurance policy. Cuba Normally the payment is made directly to the accident repair "garage" (The term "garage" refers where vehicles are serviced and repaired) when you collect the car. Cyprus For example, a policy-holder might pay a $45 co-payment for a doctor's visit, or to obtain a prescription. Czech Republic A co-payment must be paid each time a particular service is obtained. Denmark Coinsurance: Instead of paying a fixed amount up front (a co-payment), the policy-holder must pay a percentage of the total cost. Dhekelia For example, the member might have to pay 20% of the cost of a surgery, while the health plan pays the other 80%. Djibouti Because there is no upper limit on coinsurance, the policy-holder can end up owing very little, or a significant amount, depending on the actual costs of the services they obtain. Dominica Exclusions: Not all services are covered. Dominican Republic The policy-holder is generally expected to pay the full cost of non-covered services out of their own pocket. East Timor Coverage limits: Some health plans only pay for health care up to a certain dollar amount. Ecuador The policy-holder may be expected to pay any charges in excess of the health plan's maximum payment for a specific service. Egypt In addition, some plans have annual or lifetime coverage maximums. El Salvador In these cases, the health plan will stop payment when they reach the benefit maximum, and the policy-holder must pay all remaining costs. Equatorial Guinea Out-of-pocket maximums: Similar to coverage limits, except that in this case, the member's payment obligation ends when they reach the out-of-pocket maximum, and the health plan pays all further covered costs. Eritrea Out-of-pocket maximums can be limited to a specific benefit category (such as prescription drugs) or can apply to all coverage provided during a specific benefit year. Estonia

In the example given above, payments for the other driver's vehicle would be paid out under property damage coverage, and payments for the injuries would be paid out under bodily injury coverage. Antarctica Bodily injury liability coverage is also usually split as well into a maximum payment per person and a maximum payment per accident. Antigua and Barbuda Vehicle insurance (also known as auto insurance, car insurance, or motor insurance) is insurance purchased for cars, trucks, and other vehicles. Argentina Its primary use is to provide protection against losses incurred as a result of traffic accidents and against liability that could be incurred in an accident. Armenia A Health insurance policy is a contract between an insurance company and an individual. Aruba The contract can be renewable annually or monthly. Ashmore and Cartier Islands The type and amount of health care costs that will be covered by the health plan are specified in advance, in the member contract or Evidence of Coverage booklet. Australia The individual policy-holder's payment obligations may take several forms[7]: Austria Premium: The amount the policy-holder pays to the health plan each month to purchase health coverage. Azerbaijan Deductible: The amount that the policy-holder must pay out-of-pocket before the health plan pays its share. Bahamas For example, a policy-holder might have to pay a $500 deductible per year, before any of their health care is covered by the health plan. Bahrain It may take several doctor's visits or prescription refills before the policy-holder reaches the deductible and the health plan starts to pay for care. Baker Island
